The Gold Vienna Philharmonic, commonly referred to as the ‘Philharmonic’ or the ‘Gold Phili’ is the Austrian Mint’s (Münze Österreich AG) most successful product.

Europe's leading gold coin has been minted in denominations of ¼ ounce since 1989. With the introduction of the euro in 2002, the face value changed from schilling to euro. This made the “Philharmonic” the first investment coin to be minted with a face value in euros.

Struck in pure gold, the Vienna Philharmonic has proved to be a massive hit with investors. One way of visualizing the success of the Vienna Philharmonic gold coin is to imagine that if all the coins ever sold were piled on top of each other, they would surpass the 8,850 metres of Mount Everest! Mind blowing!

Manufactured in fine .9999 (24 carat) gold, the Phili pays homage to the world-famous Austrian Philharmonic Orchestra. In November 1998 when a change in the Austrian law permitted the issue of pure gold coins for investment purposes, it was decided that Austria should have a coin which would symbolize the nation. And of course, what better theme than music to reflect on the history and culture of the country? And what better place than the beautiful Viennese concert hall the Musikverein to pay homage to all the Austrian composers?

The coin was designed by Thomas Pesendorfer, famous Austrian Mint’s engraver and for the reverse, he chose to depict eight characteristic orchestral instruments: four violins either side of a cello in the foreground and the Viennese horn, the bassoon and the harp behind. Here, the inscription in capital letters “WIENER PHILHARMONIKER” stands in a semicircle.

On the obverse of 2023 Austrian Gold Philharmonic Coins is a depiction of the pipe organ found in the Musikverein. The organ case was designed by the architect Theophil von Hansen, who was responsible for the whole building. The original organ was built by Friedrich Ladegast in 1872 and since then the organ has been renovated and replaced on various occasions. It continues to look magnificent!

The Words REPUBLIK ÖSTERREICH are shown above the instrument in a semi circle, with the coin’s weight, gold purity, denomination and year of mintage “2023” engraved below. The edge of the coin is reeded.

The 1/4 oz Vienna Philharmonic 202 Gold Coin contains 1/2 troy ounce of pure 999.9 gold and has a face value of 25 euros. It can be easily resold if necessary as it is highly sought after by investors and collectors alike.

This timeless Vienna Philharmonic gold coin features the same motif every year which has contributed to its attractiveness throughout the world. Investing gold is always a wise thing during troubled times and by purchasing this coin on Coininvest, you cannot go wrong!
