The Koala 2022 1 Kilo Silver Coin
Each year, the Perth Mint designers re-imagine this gentle marsupial for what is widely regarded as one of the most appealing silver bullion coin series for investors.
The Perth Mint began their koala coin series in 2007. Although various weights have been issued, including 0.5 oz and 10 oz, today the coins are only produced in 1 oz and 1 kg version. Not only does the Perth Mint have amazing skills from its long and respected history(more than 100 years of minting excellence), but their successful modernisation allows the production of outstanding coins like this Koala Silver coin.
The designer responsible for this beautiful coin has captured the essence of this sleepy creature renowned for spending long drowsy hours slumbering high in the forest canopy. Ing Ing Jong once said she was a huge Disney fan and that her love of illustration and animation grew naturally from a young age. She has a real passion for drawing and creating characters and you can see it here on the amazing design of the Koala bear.
Enhanced with a softly frosted finish, the 2022 Australian Koala coin portrays the iconic animal dozing on the bough of a tree amid clusters of aromatic eucalyptus leaves. As well as the inscription ‘KOALA’ and The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark, the reverse includes the coin’s weight, purity and year-date.
The coin’s obverse bears the Jody Clark effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the monetary denomination. Designer and engraver Jody Clark joined the Royal Mint Uk in 2012. His portrait of Queen Elizabeth II became the fifth official portrait in 2015 replacing Ian Rank-Broadley’s effigy. Uniquely, Clark's portrait of the Queen was created using computer-aided design software to turn his initial sketches into the required low-relief model, with no manual sculpting being used.
It is important to note that for additional peace of mind, the coin incorporates an authentication feature in the form of a micro-laser engraved letter. Detectable under a magnifying glass only , it is designed to make it significantly more difficult for the coin to be counterfeited.
Only 300,000 1 oz coins will be released. Although no mintage limit applies to the 1 kilo coin, the production will close at the end of 2022 and The Perth Mint will declare the coin’s official mintage. Therefore, do not miss out on acquiring this beautiful coin which is issued as legal tender under the Australia Currency Act of 1965.
